BIBLE STUDY

This Sunday School hour starts with a time of chorus singing, sharing memory verses, and welcoming our guests, if any. This is followed by a study time. The youth and the children have their classes separately, while the adults enjoy a time of Bible discussion.

The Importance of Studying the word of God

The Bible is the Word of God, written and inspired by His Holy Spirit. It reveals to us what God wants to communicate to mankind.

The Old Testament starts with the Creation story and reveals to us how God dealt with His own people, the Israelites. It also has a lot of prophesies, some of them fulfilled in Jesus Christ and others yet to be fulfilled. Someone has rightly said, "The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed".

The New Testament broadly covers four areas - The 4 gospels are a narration of Jesus Christ's ministry on this earth; Acts reveals to us about the early New Testament Church and therefore a pattern for us to follow; Romans to Jude have a wealth of teaching for our edification and doctrinal guidance; and Revelation reveals to us the Rapture to happen, His Second Coming and the Wrath of God during the Great Tribulation.

The following verses point at the importance of reading the Word of God -

*****Quoting from the Old Testamant*****

God commanded all men to read, obey and then teach the Word to others.

..."Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children". Deut. 4:10.

"These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie downa dn when you get up. Tie them as symbold on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them down on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. - Deutronomy 6: 6-9.

The writings by the kings and prophets of the Old Testament corroborate the significance of the Word of God

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path. Psalm 119:105

As for God His way is perfect; the Word of the Lord is flawless... 2 Samuel 22:31

*****Quoting from the New Testament*****

Christ Jesus, Himself speaks of the surety and blessing in delving into the Word of God

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Mathew 24:35

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you. John 15:7

Other New Testament corroborations also prove the significance of the Word of God

For the Word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double edges sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Hebrew 4:12.

All Scripture is God-breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. II Timothy 3:16,17
